Gold Medal and People’s Choice for the CAMFED Garden at Chelsea Flower Show

Give Girls In Africa A Space To Grow

In 2019 I was privileged to be able to design a garden for an inspiring charity that is dear to my heart, the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED).  This impressive charity tackles both gender inequality and poverty at the same time by supporting some of the world’s most vulnerable girls to stay in school and complete their education. Over 18 months I developed the design and oversaw the build at Chelsea with a dedicated team.

I am thrilled that the garden was selected as The People’s Choice Award and won a prestigious Gold Medal.

The garden is now relocated at the Eden Project Med Biome where it is open to the public as a walk through space, ensuring legacy for CAMFED’s powerful message.

Trip to Zimbabwe 2018

How can a designer put together a garden based on a place they haven’t been to? In order to design the CAMFED Garden I had to experience Africa for myself – the people, colours, sound, heat, vibrancy, plants and atmosphere.

Our medium sized plot will be packed full of energy and stories. It will be bright and colourful, positive and vibrant, as a direct response to my trip to Zimbabwe in 2018 and the inspirational people I met there.
